Sequoyah drama students Carolyn Drywater and LeighAnna Evans recently
competed in the first round of high school speech and drama competition
and won second place to advance to the regional competition.
“I’m so proud of my speech and drama students,” said Amanda Ray,
Sequoyah speech/drama teacher. “They are definitely starting off on the
right foot. Our first competition and our first win of the season.”
The girls competed in the humorous duet competition with their rendition
of “God” by Mo Gaffney and Kathy Najimy.
“We practiced a lot after school with Mrs. Ray,” Drywater said.
“I’m speechless,” Evans said about winning. “It feels like all of the
hard work paid off.”
The work isn’t over yet. The regional competition will be held at
Rogers State University in Claremore in March. A win at regionals will
advance the duo to the state competition at the University of Oklahoma
in April.
Drywater, 15, of Tahlequah is a freshman and is the daughter of Jolene
Roberts and Kevin Drywater. Evans, 15, of Tahlequah is also a freshman
and is daughter of Rhonda and Curtis McKay.
